  • Question for NE members

It looks like my job will be moving sometime around September. My most likely landing spot will be northern Virginia (very near the Maryland border). The issue is that this location puts me just outside the border of the NE region. If I end up where I think I will end up, I will only be 5-10 miles outside of the NE region. I plan on competing in the NE contest because there are all still much closer than most of the SE contests. The closest SE contest is 5+ hours away. Even the middle ones are 9+ hours away, which is about the same time for me to go to Maine.

Technically, the rules say I physically have to live in the region to the RD. However, I want to put the question to the members. I'm happy to continue on as NE RD if you guys are good with me living just outside the NE region.

We have had members outside the NE region (normally in states bordering the region, especially Virginia, that affiliated with the NorthEast. I personally have no problem with you remaining as NERD, since no one else expressed any interest in doing it anyway. I would recommend asking the BOD to approve it after you get a sense from the region.

Or you could just live in Maryland and work in Virginia. In this area, lots of people do that.😊

Dave, first, thanks once again for stepping up to fill Brad’s shoes of a fairly long tenure.

I agree with Brad and also feel that if you feel you can effectively serve the NE Region from just outside its border (or anywhere for that matter) to go for it. I’m sure there are provisions within the BOD to keep a person desiring to stay in an important voluntary role in that role (if not there should be!). Thanks for trying to find a work around to stay in the position.

This discussion also identifies the importance within regions to have an active, knowledgable and working ARD (Assistant Regional Director) group. A captain is only as good as his or her team! This same theory works in the AMA chain of volunteer leaders from VP to AVPs, LMs, CDs, EMs and Club officers.

So, Dave, perhaps not only having you stay on as RD regardless of geography but expanding the ARD ranks to help you serve that role?

I look forward to seeing you remain as NERD if that’s your desire.

      Thanks,
      Daren
