Please read the below thoroughly and contact me with any questions.
There is likely going to be a presidential TFR issued for Friday, September 9th that is going to affect flight operations for part of or more of the day at the CORKS field. The contest is NOT cancelled. My hope is that the TFR, if issued, will expire Friday which will allow flight operations to resume either later in the day or before Saturday morning.
To check the status of TFR's, go to the FAA TFR site at https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.jsp and use the STATE filter to select OHIO. Click GO. All Ohio TFR's will be listed. Ours will probably be listed as Columbus. Select the desired TFR and read it thoroughly.
Understand the times in these NOTAMS are listed in both UTC and local depending on the part of the TFR you're reading.
A presidential TFR extends out 30 nautical miles from the FAA-defined center, usually where the VIP's are located. They will likely be only 12 miles from the CORKS field. The TFR extends up from the surface to 17,999 feet. To be clear, no aircraft can be airborne that's not under ATC control while the TFR is hot.
On to a happier subject now. As of today we have 14 pilots, including 3 Novices from the CORKS club to fly this contest. I am hoping for more. Please register if you haven't already done so.
The address for the contest is 3143 Columbus Road, Centerburg, OH 43011.
If you've got questions, contact me. Looking forward to seeing my fellow North Central friends at this meet. 😀
